This is what an unborn child of 22-weeks looks like.
At this age...
The baby is about 7½ inches long and weighs about one pound.
The baby has fingerprints and perhaps some head and body hair.
The baby may suck its thumb and is more active.
The brain is growing very rapidly.
The baby's heartbeat can be easily heard.
The kidneys start to work.
In 2008, 5 of 41 babies born prematurely at 22 weeks survived.
A 22-week baby boy recently died in Italy, after surviving an attempted abortion. This was one tough kid. I can only imagine what astonishing gifts this child may have offered to the world, if only we nurtured his growth rather than choosing to kill him. Could he have become another Mozart? Perhaps he may have become a brilliant doctor who discovered a cure for breast cancer? We will never know.
The boy spent his first day of life under a sheet, presumed dead. A chaplain praying for the baby noticed movement under the sheet and called for help. A pediatrician arrived and observed the baby was still breathing, still moving, and his heart was still beating despite the previous attempt to kill him. The baby died in an incubator in the intensive neonatal therapy unit at a second hospital in nearby Cosenza the next day.
It is astonishing to me that anyone would hire someone to kill their own son, and that this is called in today's perverted vernacular, "pro-choice."
Eternal Father, we offer you the body, blood, soul and divinity of your dearly Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and the sins of the whole world. For the sake of his sorrowful passion, have mercy on us, and all the whole world.
